The Trane House: Impulse! Records

Impulse! Records started in the early 1960's. John
Coltrane was Impulse!'s first major signing and the label became known as The House That Trane Built.
Blazing its black and orange colors, Impulse! became
well known as the label for jazz music innovation and improvision. "Bristling" with the sound
of the mid-sixties, combined with experimentation and political outrage, the artists at Impulse!
not only stood out from the crowed, but connected the jazz of the late fifties with the jazz of
the seventies.
This Mayhem special will review the artists and music at Impulse! Records as well as review the history of this amazing jazz label. |
