Fifty Foot Hose was one of several psychedelic band which emerged from the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1960's. What distinguished this band from most of the others was the infusion of electronic music into the sound. This was due to the fondness for electronic music by co-founder Cork Marcheschi, who created an instrument that combined sounds from the theremin, fuzzboxes, cardboard tubes and a World War II aircraft bomber. The band released on LP, "Cauldron," in 1967, but the musical,"Hair" pulled most of the band member away which seemed to be the end of Fifty Foot Hose. But in the 1990's "Cauldron" was re-released and Fifty Foot Hose was reformed with Cork Marcheschi as the only original member. The performance on From the Vault was originally broadcast from San Francisco as part of Terrastock II in April, 1998.

Begun in Boston in the late 1970's as an electric rock band known as the the Wild Stares, this group moved to Los Angeles where they found an audience that could understand them. But after 15 years and the loss of their bassist, Fran Miller, the remaining three members dropped the electricity and expanded the size of the band to include a viola, flutes, clarinet, vioin and trombone to accompany the healthy repertoire of songs written and sung by frontman Steve Gregoropoulos. W.A.C.O. (Wild Acoustic Chamber Orchestra) visited KFJC on March 8, 2002.

Calexico delivers its drifty, melancholy and rhythmic Southwestern sounds from a performance in the KFJC Pit on January 13, 2002.

Joey Burns and John Convertino met in 1990 and started a musical partnership that evolved into Calexico with a debut album, "Spoke," and has gained them some grand national attention.
