KFJC 89.7FM

Roy Ross, aka Pete Dixon

RIP May 1st, 2020

What are the odds?

Oh, Pete Dixon! Those of us who knew you well at KFJC always thought you were something of a one-in-a-million type of guy, and now we know for sure: how cruelly ironic that you were felled by CJD, a horrible, rare and fatal disease that’s estimated to affect an equally tiny fraction of the population.

KFJC has been privileged to have had you as a staff member, production director and DJ for almost half its 60 year existence, and I feel very fortunate to have been friends with you for pretty much the whole time I’ve been involved. You were one of the first staffers to extend the hand of friendship to me when I joined in 1993, perhaps because you were such a huge anglophile and I’d just moved here from England! As a life-long techie who was only really interested in engineering, most of KFJC’s programming completely baffled me back then, but your show Beyond Room 222 was one of the few I found not only listenable but also very enjoyable ... and educational! You amazed me with your encyclopedic knowledge of British music, and constantly surprised me by playing obscure songs I hadn’t heard in decades, by bands that I thought nobody would ever have heard of over here.

Equally happy in the KFJC master studio or our “lower” production studio -- now renamed “Room 222” in your honor -- you’ve left your indelible mark on the station in so many ways that your legacy will endure here for a long, long time.

Rest in peace, my friend.
